Descriptions of volunteer jobs
| Bike Parking |
Free Guarded Bicycle Parking Volunteers
will help check-in and check-out bicycles for festival goers. |
| Bucket Brigade |
This is a fun one! Provide the opportunity for
festival goers to support the festival with a donation as you pass
through the crowd. Last year we raised over $32,000! |
| Buddy |
Greet and orient performers to festival site and East Lansing.
Help transport performers from Marriott to performance sites. |
| CD Sales |
Assist with performer CD sales. |
| Children's Area |
Facilitate children's activities (games crafts and performances)
by assisting and encouraging children's participation, Assist with
visitor questions and safety. |
| Floater |
Act as fill-in at sites that need assistance during the festival.

| Folk Arts
Marketplace |
Work in the Folk Arts Marketplace (craft vending area) Provide
general assistance and serve as booth sitters. |
| Green Room |
Staff the Green Room where food and beverages are provided for performers,
volunteers and staff. |
| In House Volunteer |
Assist GLFF staff in preparing materials (name tags, volunteer/performer
packets, info books) prior to the festival. We also need on-call office
help during the month of August. |
| Information Booth |
Provide information to the general public including performance
times, restroom locations, transportation options, direction, etc.

| Music Stage Logger |
Accurately log live musical performances and demonstrations in
sound booth. Record performances to DAT tapes. |
| Operations |
Work with the Festival Operations crew from the onsite festival
office. Likely tasks would include delivering items to stages or vendors.
Must be comfortable driving a golf cart, some heavy lifting and walking
will be involved |
| Recycling |
Staff a recycling tent. Sort various items into appropriate bins.
May include rinsing items to clean them for recycling. |
| Seniors on the Go |
Assist people with mobility challenges in getting around the site.
MUST be a safe and comfortable golf cart driver. Good hearing
and vision are important. This team is staffed by the East Lansing
Senior Center. |
| Set Up Crew |
Assist in all the last minute details that make the festival go.
Put up signs and banners. Help set and deliver tables and chairs.
On Sunday eve, we reverse the process and take down the signs and
collect other festival equipment. May involve climbing on ladders
( less than 10’ up), driving festival vehicles, and using some
hand power tools. |
| Site Coordinator |
Oversee stage areas and resolve issues such as seating, crowd control,
lost children and bucket brigade. |
| Stage Manager
Assistant |
Work with performance stage manager. Keep backstage area safe and
discourage public from coming into fenced-off backstage areas. Previous
stage experience and tact are very helpful in this position. |
| Transportation |
Transport performers, staff and equipment to music stages. Must
be able to safely drive a golf cart. |

Registration |
Check-in volunteers prior to each shift at the Marriott Hotel.
